God directs.
Monday, March 15, we made a call to Manuel Monzon discussing possibilities to help with some donated money. Manuel said the biggest needs in the Zona 3 community were building a home for some of the families, or buying needed beds and water filters for many in the community. We asked for pictures, and in one of the homes, a sewer had been leaking into it for more then 20 days. This mother of 2, whose husband had been run over by a dump truck while working in the dump, said they couldn’t sleep at night because the smell was so bad. We couldn’t ignore this situation, so we asked Manuel to look into how to fix this problem. Workers were hired, and it was discovered the sewer pipe under the community was flowing the wrong direction, and was broken. It was amazing to see the community start to work together to fix the problem, and within days, the small ‘street’ in-between their rows of homes was torn up, dug up, and the pipe exposed. A community meeting was held, awareness was raised, and support was given from inside and outside the community. But most importantly, Manuel took the opportunity to talk about Jesus-an opportunity that would otherwise not have been available. In all, over half the money was raised to replace the sewer line in that community-all thanks to God, who is the father to the fatherless, and ever faithful!
